About L V Prasad Eye Institute

Established in 1987, L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) has evolved into a premier eye care institution with a presence across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Our mission is to provide equitable and efficient eye care to all sections of society, with a focus on the underserved.

We operate a four-tier 'eye health pyramid' model that includes a central institute in Hyderabad, tertiary centres in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, secondary centres in rural districts, and primary care vision centres in remote communities.

Our institute is recognized as a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Prevention of Blindness and a Global Resource Centre for VISION 2020. We are committed to excellence in patient care, education, research, and advocacy for eye health.

Our research initiatives span basic science, translational research, clinical trials, and public health ophthalmology. We have published over 2,500 research papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Pioneering work in limbal stem cell transplantation for ocular surface reconstruction. Our scientists have developed novel techniques for cultivating stem cells and successfully restored vision in patients with chemical burns.

Identifying genetic markers for inherited eye diseases prevalent in the Indian population, including retinitis pigmentosa, congenital cataracts, and corneal dystrophies.

Developing innovative models for delivering eye care in rural and underserved communities, including teleophthalmology and mobile eye clinics.
